A stripped-down version, FrontPage Express was bundled for free in Internet Explorer from 1997, then came a Macintosh version, followed by four more versions between 19. The Redmond company released Front in June 1996, when it was also bundled with the Microsoft Office suite. Seeing that this kind of product might have a future, Microsoft snapped up Vermeer shortly after the launch of Front.0, for $133 million. It was actually first developed by Vermeer Technologies Incorporated, who in November 1995 released Vermeer Front.0, one of the first ever distributed Web content authoring tools. The rise to fameīelieve it or not, FrontPage wasn’t always a Microsoft product.
